Horse-riding in South Tyrol
Thinking of a horse-riding holiday? Come to South Tyrol, the home of Haflinger horses. Riding farms and riding stables in Castelrotto and on the Alpe di Siusi offer you horse-riding in the great outdoors as well as riding lessons for beginners and horse lovers. It's wonderful exploring the surroundings of the Alpe di Siusi holiday area on the back of Haflingers, quarter horses and ponies.
How to handle a horse, how to take care of it and how to behave once you are riding: all this and more is taught by the experts in Castelrotto and on the Alpe di Siusi. Riding lessons for beginners and advanced riders, horse riding through nature (hourly and whole-day excursions), "pedagogical" riding, trekking on horse-back and trail riding can all be found on the riding farms and stables in Kastelruth and on the Seiser Alm.
Oswald-von-Wolkenstein horseback-riding tournament
Oswald von Wolkenstein (1376–1445) was no physical-fitness buff, nor was he a member of the medieval horsey set. The horseback-riding tournament held in his honour is thus a reflection both of medieval traditions and the love of equestrian sports (centring on the Haflinger breed) which has survived to this day in South Tyrol. The contests are always held in places with some connection to Oswald's life. The tournament consists of four stages.
