Becoming acquainted with magical landscapes on cross-country skis

The wintry, snow-covered Alpe di Siusi is a true paradise for cross-country ski enthusiasts and hikers. The seemingly endless wide open spaces, the gently rolling hills, the sunny dells, the forests and the meadows – and everything against the magnificent backdrop of the towering Dolomites (a World Natural Heritage Site) – invite you to explore them, either on cross-country skis or by foot.

And most important: you can reach all the trails in 10 minutes on foot from the Hotel Icaro.

An extensive network of cross-country trails and winter hiking trails means you have a great variety of possible routes – all of them offering wondrous beauty. Cross-country ski enthusiasts can choose among 60 km of trails of different levels of difficulty. All of the cross-country ski trails have double or quadruple lanes and are prepared for skating style. On the other hand, over 30 km of winter hiking trails enable hikers to take their time and explore – close-up – the beautiful landscapes of the high-altitude plateau.

Cross-country skiing runs
Since the winter season 2008/09 the Alpe di Siusi has formed part of Dolomiti Nordicski. Europe’s largest Nordic skiing circuit includes 1300 km of cross-country ski trails, 60 km of which are on the Seiser Alm.

A charge is payable for the use of the cross-country ski trails on the Seiser Alm. Weekly tickets are available at the reception.

South Tyrol Moonlight Classic Alpe di Siusi 19.01.2011

The moon will be astounded when it peeks over the Dolomites. Because that’s when the starting pistol will fire for a cross-country marathon of a most unusual kind. Several hundred cross-country skiers will start off from Compatsch and glide through the landscape on their narrow skis guided by the light of the lamps mounted on their foreheads. They’ll follow the route for 36 or 20 kilometres, finally returning to their starting point. But the Alpe di Siusi Moonlight Classic is a fantastic experience not only for participants, but also for spectators, with the last lift descending into the valley an hour after midnight.
